Philips 9650 Air Fryer / Philips Premium Air Fryer XXL

Philips 9650 or Philips Premium XXL air fryer is a large capacity with Philips’ latest Fat removing technology. This upgraded model included Philips’ TurboStar technology, upgraded controls, cooking presets and a bunch of other new features.

Like previous models, Philips 9650 got impressive reviews and ratings from users worldwide. It has this sturdy construction, an eye-catching design and intuitive controls which gets praises by most users.

Appearance & Design

Philips XXL Air Fryer HD9650/96 is one of the premium models offered by the company boasting glossy black exterior and a typical basket air fryer design. It sports a more rounded shape which when combined with shiny black exterior makes a classy appliance.

As you know, an air fryer uses hot air circulation to crisp foods using significantly less oil as compared to deep frying, and in this case, Philips says that the Philips 9650 uses 90% less oil to cook perfectly fried foods without compromising taste. The additional accessory includes a starfish shaped insert which sits between the frying pan and air fryer drawer and catch the grease while cooking.

The air fryer has 7 Quart cooking capacity which is sufficient to cook 5-6 servings in one go. If you are a medium size family, Philips 9650 would be a nice addition to your kitchen arsenal.

In terms of size, Philips 9650 XXL premium measures 15.55×15.55×15.67 Inches which clearly indicates the large footprint. A dedicated spot on your kitchen counter would be nice to have this big boy. That’s because it is 19 pounds heavy and it wouldn’t be wise to move it every now and then after using. Overall, Philips XXL is a well designed and premium looking air fryer which will definitely look good on any kitchen counter.

Cooking Functions

Philips Premium Air Fryer XXL with Fat Removal Technology is a multifunctional and versatile air fryer with 7 cooking functions which are:

  • Air Fry
  • Bake
  • Roast
  • Grill
  • Toast
  • Reheat
  • Dehydrate

There are 5 cooking presets from chicken and fries to fish and cake but you will have to manually set the timer. The cooking presets only offer default temperature. You can also select the manual mode of cooking where you can set the time and temperature all by yourself for precision cooking. Cooking presets come in handy when you are a novice cook like myself, but if you are an expert and veteran of air frying technology, you’ll sure find manual cooking settings more fun.

Although, it is an expensive air fryer, but its suitable for folks cooking for several people or as they say batch cookers.

Cooking Performance

When it comes to cooking performance, we were impressed with the cooking results and doneness. We cooked frozen French fries and chicken wings and we found incredibly satisfying crispy and crunchy exterior.

Homemade fries can be cooked at 212F for about 10-12 minutes. If you cook more than that, the fries will get crispy even on the inside. Experimenting with time and temperature once or twice, you will be able to get perfectly cooked fries with crunch on the outside and juiciness on the inside.

For perfect chicken wings, we used one tablespoon oil for 6 chicken wings and then cooked for 15 minutes. You can shake them half way and make sure every piece if evenly cooked to perfect doneness.

Accessories

One of the drawbacks of Philips 9650 is that there aren’t any accessories included. The grilling, baking and other accessories are sold separately which significantly increase overall cost of the air fryer which is already too high for many.

Here are the accessories sold separately that you can buy for convenient cooking:
